KSTS

"KSTS is the NBCUniversal owned and operated Telemundo television station in the San Francisco Bay Area market. The station is located in San Jose, California and broadcasts on digital channel 49. KSTS shares facilities with NBC sister operation KNTV. The new all-digital broadcast center was opened in 2004.

KSTS began on May 31st, 1981. The station was owned by the National Group Television and headed by N.J. Douglas. The station offered various brokered types of programming during the say on weekdays and mornings on weekends. The programming included foreign language shows, religious programming, and a lot of programming pertaining to new technologies.

In 1984, the station partnered with two other independent Spanish language television stations to bring about 5 hours a day of Spanish shows on weekday evenings. The Spanish programming actually replaced Subscription Television programming. By 1986, KSTS was running Spanish programming about half the time. In 2000, as a result of a corporate takeover, NBC became the owner of KSTS running the station as part of the Telemundo division."
